Day 4: INNSBRUCK - STUBAI VALLEY - INNSBRUCK

  Saturday, June 26, 2010

Today we have a quieter day, so we have decided to sleep half an hour more and enjoy a little more the room of the Best Western Hotel Engl where we are staying in Innsbruck.
After breakfast, we have made our way to Stubai Valley in Tyrol, with our rental car in Austria where we just started off the highway, we have begun to see where we were really going: a spectacular, completely green Stubai valley, dotted with houses full of flowers on the balconies and with an impressive backdrop: Snowy mountains that remind us that despite being in summer, snow in this environment is common.

Stubai el Tirol Valley

We have been stopping in every town and in every corner that we liked because of the landscape from Innsbruck, the first town is 25 minutes away and the last of Stubai Valley 40 minutes or so from Innsbruck. It has taken us about 2 and a half hours to reach the last town.

In the end, almost without realizing it we have reached the Stubai glacier, one of the stops we had planned for today, but in the end we left why we had read in the forums that the cable car could not go up to Top of Tirol, because it was closed at this time.
But once we have met at the foot of the snowy mountain, where the valley road ends, we have not been able to avoid it: we have gone directly to get the tickets to climb to the second station at 2600 meters.
The ticket goes for 15 euros or so and at the time of taking it out we didn't think we were going to give that money so much "play."
The views from the cable car are impressive, but still, when we got off at the first station, it has been much better.
We have seen many people prepared to trek through the area.

Stubai el Tirol Valley

After taking many photos, we have gone in search of the next funicular, which will take us to our destination in the Stubai Valley in Tyrol.
If the first is spectacular, this is already amazing, in the middle of June and we touch the snow and with a temperature that is a joy, 25 degrees!

We walk around and on the terrace of the restaurant we see some hammocks, where to have a drink and sunbathe.
We do not doubt it and we go directly. There we have been resting for an hour, drinking something and especially sunbathing: there were even people in bikinis next to the snow.
About 1 and something, we have decided that it was time to go back and go to eat, so we have gone in search of the cable car.

Upon arrival, we have seen a restaurant and looking at the time, we have decided to eat there, to go quieter on the next visits we have.
After lunch, we have set out on our way to Innsbruck, to visit the Schloss Ambras that we set aside yesterday, visiting the rest of the city. We have not entered, but we have been walking through the gardens, where we have seen a lot of entertainment from people.
We have found this visit quite expendable.
After this “kit kat” of the day, we have gone to the parking of the most famous ski jump in Austria.
We have paid 3.40 euros religiously and we have gone in search of the funicular that goes up to the jump. Once at the box office, we have paid the 8 euros that the entrance costs.

Innsbruck

The truth is that the tickets are quite expensive everywhere, but we can not and do not want to stay with the desire to see the sites we have in mind!
The views from the top of the jump are spectacular, although the city from above has disappointed me, it is much prettier at street level.

Innsbruck

We look at the clock and it is 5 in the afternoon, the ideal time to go to the hotel to rest.
After 1 hour, we went out to do some shopping in the center of Innsbruck and have dinner.

Innsbruck

We have seen a restaurant, next to the Golden Tejadillo, which makes the Tyrolean specialty that we wanted to eat yesterday, so without thinking, we have put huge plates of meat, potatoes, onion and egg, mixed and seasoned, between chest and back. With parsley and oil.

Innsbruck

We could not with dessert or coffee.
I still have a full stomach and that we have had dinner for a while and we are already resting at the hotel.
Tomorrow we will have to eat something lighter if we want to continue maintaining the planning we have prepared for this trip to Austria.
